The Africa Scout Foundation (ASF) hosted a successful gathering in Bujumbura, Burundi on March 15, 2024, coinciding with Africa Scout Day celebrations. The event, held at the Inyambo Restaurant, brought together over 70 guests from 8 countries, including current ASF members, representatives from Scout organizations, and dignitaries.
The gathering provided a valuable space for attendees to reconnect with old friends, forge new relationships, and explore collaboration opportunities to strengthen Scouting across Africa. The evening was capped off with delicious Burundian cuisine and lively entertainment, fostering a spirit of camaraderie.
ASF took the occasion to honor and recognize its members, acknowledging individuals and National Scout Organizations for their significant contributions to advancing Scouting in Africa. The Foundation welcomed new members from Burundi, France, Ghana, the United Kingdom, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, and Sweden, along with two new Scout Associations.
Mr. Andy Chapman, Chairperson of the World Scout Committee, delivered a compelling keynote address, underscoring the transformative power of collective action in empowering young people as catalysts for positive change within their communities. “By investing in the Africa Scout Foundation, you’re not just donating funds – you are investing in the potential of countless Scouts who are the agents of change in their communities. Your generosity will empower and equip them with the experiences, adventures, and opportunities to thrive, to lead, and to make a positive impact on society”, Andy Chapman – Chief Guest.
Attendees resonated with the ASF’s mission throughout the evening, emphasizing the importance of supporting its endeavors and the gathering culminated in substantial contributions, totaling over USD 4,500. This financial boost will help the Foundation continue its vital work of equipping young people with the skills and experiences they need to thrive and lead in their communities.
