On 10 May 2020, the Africa Scout Foundation launched an open-call for Scout-led projects that promote education of active citizens creating positive change in their communities and in the world based on shared values.
By close of the deadline for submissions on 10th June 2020, 209 project proposals were received from 24 NSOs. from which 16 project proposals from 16 NSOs were selected to receive the grant. The projects’ focus varies from response to COVID-19 pandemic to youth programme activities, Better World Framework initiatives and local awareness campaigns focusing on education and creating a culture of peace. All the shortlisted projects demonstrate an aspect of community involvement, in addition to meeting other selection criteria, including the standing of the mother NSO with WOSM.
The Profiles of ASF Youth Fund Selected Projects (English) and Profils des projets sélectionnés par le Fonds de la FAS pour la jeunesse (French) offer a glimpse of the selected projects which will undergo a further refinement process before commencement of implementation. The remaining projects that were not shortlisted have been kept in a reserve for consideration as and when further funding is available in the future.
Thank you to all the young people who took time to submit their applications. Those who were unsuccessful are encouraged not give up on their contributions to their communities despite the limited funding to enable them scale-up their projects. The Scout Donation Platform however remains open throughout the year to accept projects for crowdfunding. NSOs are requested to support these young people to list their projects on the platform.
